Typical heavyweight jersey knits use medium-weight yarn and are knitted very tightly, which can make them feel stiff and rough against the skin. However, when using a thick yarn like No. 8 and knitting it tightly, even though it's tightly woven, there's still a little bit of looseness in the stitches, resulting in a nice amount of stretch.Also, thicker threads feel softer against the skin.
