Heavyweight long-sleeve shirts are often stiff and uncomfortable to wear, likely due to the fabric’s dense texture, but the “STAND WHEELER” heavyweight version eliminates these drawbacks entirely.
Typical heavyweight jersey fabrics are knitted with medium-weight yarn at a very high gauge, which can make them feel stiff and rough against the skin. However, when we knit with thick No. 8 yarn at a high gauge, even though it’s tightly knit, there’s still a slight amount of give in the knit, leaving just the right amount of stretch.
Additionally, the thick yarn makes it feel soft against the skin.
I think this is one of the most comfortable heavyweight long-sleeve T-shirts available. The ribbing at the cuffs and hem is not sewn on but finished with a binder stitch.
This should significantly reduce the risk of the ribbing becoming loose and saggy from stretching during wear. More importantly, rather than the extreme constriction caused by sewn-on ribbing, the binder stitching allows for a natural, slight shrinkage, which adds a different dimension to the rugged texture of the heavyweight jersey fabric.
